120 Moons:
Studio Update 1

21 MAY 24

I've tracked and completed 2 songs for this project with Zach Palmer (of the band Smothered) at Starshine Studios. They are moving their way into the Mastering process as I type. The 3rd session will be in about a month and hopefully I'll complete the remainder of the songs for 120 moons. I met Zach through a mutual friend, Kyle Pennington (of Record Setter and phenomenal food photographer). Zach has been great. He not only is good at his job, but a really pleasant dude. He lets the artist guide the way, but steps in on suggestions that are just the right things to make for a better endgame. I would love to interview him on his thoughts leading up to working together and after...I probably sent him 20+ emails before we even started our first session. His patience is unmatched.

I am really happy with how things are going. Because I can be too ambitious with high expectations, I tried my best to remind myself of the goal. To capture performances I'm proud of, but know it's not going to be perfect. As much as I can, not compare myself to professional musician who have more time and budget dedicated to their projects. That's a hard one for me, but has been freeing at the same time. There is a brand new song that I wrote and will be recorded weeks after finishing the writing...that's unheard of for me haha My goal for this one is to try and do a 1 take performance to add to the intimacy...again something new for me to mix things up.

My goal for these songs was to explore something different or even multiple things for each track. That goes from the instruments used, percussion, vocal production, tuning/key, song structure, song length...all the things haha The first song to spark this collective I worked on for a few years starting during Covid, while some others were recorded pretty quickly from their conception. There's something unique about each track and I can't wait to share the process for each. I will say that knowing these songs will live together as a collective, I did weave in a few connections between the songs with the lyrics. You may hear repeated phrases or words in different songs and that was intentional.

I'm now creating the release plan, the marketing if you will. Part of me wants to throw it up online as soon as it's done, but I'm going to chill and have fun with this. After all songs are done thus the end to these updates, what I'm going to do is dedicate a blog to deep dive into a song once it's officially released.

Until next time!
